'Bibliomancy' Articles

Divination using books, or more specifically words. Some form of bibliomancy has existed for a long time, from runes to prophetic poetry. Poetry in a simple declarative sentence that creates mystery, because the metaphors contain a deep truth and metaphysically poetry is literal. Poetry has power.

To practice bibliomancy, you let your eyes go over a source of words, and read until a word strikes you. When the word strikes you, you focus on it. Then close and open the book again at random, and read until another word strikes you. You can get as many words as you need until you sense the answer to your question. It can be just one or it can be that a whole sentence or passage strikes you, and that in itself is your answer.

“The words dripped on my consciousness, sank into my being, and carried me away to the magic long ago of once upon a time.” Peter Abrahams

Word Magic

Bibliomancy is divination using books, or more specifically words. Some form of bibliomancy has existed for a long time, from runes to prophetic poetry. Is all about the power of words … i ka ‘olelo ke ola, i ka ‘olelo ka make. In the words the life, the health. In the words, the misery, the death. Like magic words? More like word magic. The idea that some words are magic and others are not usually gets people confused. You don’t even need to say magic. It just happens in certain contexts and intents. It is what is put into the… Seek More

Secret Meaning

Why aren’t people discovering secret meaning in books all the time? Well, it’s simple. Many books are not written to contain the world. Modern books often are dwarfed in spirit so could work a little only, or not at all. Would the language used also be part of why not? With English, it’s hard to place kaona on words. Kaona = multiples, many levels of meaning. Languages older than English were much more intuitive, like Latin, or Hebrew, the Hawaiian native tongue, or Sanskrit. And spoke far more metaphorically. Poetry in a simple declarative sentence that creates mystery, because the… Seek More

Basis In Reality

Everyone familiar with the tarot? The imagery on those cards is archetypical, and archetypes are memetic presences at the very least, if not spirits. The “words” behind the tarot were an oral tradition. The images were crafted on buildings and any kind of sheltered structure in one form or another, and the only markings to link to them were those images. When does an image become a “character” in a language (since character symbols evolved from pictures) or is there no difference in practice? An image becomes a character when it has that quality of many levelled meaning. Power is… Seek More

Brass Tacks Of Bibliomancy

Shall we get down to the brass tacks of bibliomancy? Actually, I have to back up, then we can. You cannot imagine something that has no basis in reality. Now take a sensitive person. They pick up a lot of stuff, things they sometimes can’t process, but it’s still in their head. Having picked up all this stuff, well… It gives them more “words” in their head, though it doesn’t have to be words. It can be images, sounds, or concepts formed in another way, but none of this extra stuff in their head is formless. It all has form… Seek More

Create Your Bibliomancy Book

You can easily create your own bibliomancy book. It would be best if you were in a clear meditative spiritual state. Grab a piece of scratch paper, because you will need it and it won’t be the finished product, and free associate. Write whatever words come into your head. Don’t “think”, just let words flow. Then grab whatever you want to make your book, and write any words that fit a theme, or form a sentence, into that book. This book can grow over time, and will be uniquely yours. It won’t make sense to other people. Doesn’t have to… Seek More
